I'm doing commissions!

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 31, 2009, 11:03 AM

Hey guys. I thought I'd just pop in and mention that I'm doing commissions.
I'll basically draw anything for anybody, as long as it's not mature content. (Which I might, might do. It depends on what it is, really.) Whoever wants to commission me, send a note or comment on this journal or something. Just get a hold of me. :D

My large drawings on colored paper (Pics of some of those are soon to be uploaded) are $200 for a big colored pencil drawing. The reason why it's so high is that the materials to make it cost me. My prismacolors get shorter with each thing I do. But I'll mail it to you in a tube and you can hang it up on your wall or something and it'll just be yours, the original art, not a print or anything. I think that's cool because if you would hold the paper up to the light in just the right way, you can see my pencil strokes. You cant see that online, no matter how high of a resolution I scan it at. (My drawings in real life actually always get butchered by my scanner, I assure you.) I usually use paper that's 25x19, but I'm cool with working at a larger or smaller scale, as long as the price can be changed accordingly. Art with a bunch of negative space uses up less of my time and prismacolors, so that can also decrease the price on these... pretty dramatically.

I also have a bunch of small pieces of colored paper whose dimensions are fun. If I put an inch border on those, it looks like they're in extreme widescreen. They're 18x12, and I really like that dimension. If it's a full blown picture on those with a half inch border and no negative space, it'll be $50. If there's a lot of negitive space, though... the price will vary.

And I have your standard 8.5x11 colored paper. It's rather small, for me at least, but i can use it for sketches or whatever you like. For this size I think it'll be $10 for a sketch, $5 for a rough sketch, $20 for a colored sketch thing with a lot of fancy schmancy shadows and highlights. If you want a picture like what i upload on deviantart, all detailed with that size, I'll do it for $30. I'm telling you, though, it's a better investment for you if you commission me for the paper one size up and just let me use a lot of negative space.

I can do drawings in graphite, charcoal, a mixed watercolor and colored pencil (like the picture with the swirly sky), or heck, markers... on any size of paper. I'm not really too experienced in any of these mediums, I consider them rather experimental for me, but often times my stuff turns out good if I have to be on my toes the whole time.

Digital art is different. I'm in my extreme comfort zone. I can chill out and know that I can adjust the colors or contrast at any time if I decide I dont like it. It's just more of a relaxed medium for me. Plus the feeling of my pen moving across my tablet is magical like no other medium is. Not only this, but I'm never going to run out of black or blue or white on photoshop. I dont have to worry about sharpening my pencils- and wince when I see how short they can get with just a bit of shading. This is why my digital commissions are WAY cheaper.

For your basic digital painting, I'm going to charge $20. You give me the dimensions you want, and as long as it's not the size of the christler building, I'll use that size. I'm most comfortable working with a size about as wide as the screen of my mac. I can go larger and more detailed, though. I might adjust the price if it's too complex. I use a lot of realism in my digital paintings, but if you want anime, I can do that, too. Just send me a request, and I'll tell you if I can do that. Generally, for digital paintings, the more detailed you want it, the more i'll charge. If it's a dragon and a girl with fire and water in the background, it's probably going to be a little more expensive, you know? But i'll do my best to be fair to myself and you, because we all are having money issues.

So, in case you didnt read any of that and want a summary...

Traditional Art (will be mailed to you. shipping may cost more, so it'll add on to the price if the price is under $50.) So far I think I'll only do traditional commissions for people in the States, sorry. Shipping is a bitch.

Huge colored pencil drawing on 25x19' paper....... $200
Long colored pencil drawing on 18x12' paper....... $50
example:
Small colored pencil drawing on 8.5x11' paper..... $30
example:
Detailed color sketch on 8.5xll' paper............ $20
example:
Color sketch on 8.5x11' paper..................... $10
Rough sketch on 8.5x11' paper..................... $5
If you want something else, like me to use graphite instead, ask! It will probably decrease the prices.

Digital Art (will be emailed to you, the huge original .psd file with the layers if you want, a high quality .jpg, and any resizes to fit your monitor/s.)

Digital painting (Really depends. Basic).......... $20

As far as payment goes, I require half the money before I send the art to you. This is to keep me from getting screwed. A lot of pros do it like this, i'm copying. When you get it, if you like it, send over the other half of the money. If you dont like it, send it back. I keep half the money because I did the work. Digital art cant be returned, but the version I send you before full payment will be watermarked.

Thanks... Seriously, if you want to commission me, please don't be shy.

:D

I'm just writing to let you all know that my Grandpa died at 4am. I'm in Iowa right now, and we're prepping for the funeral.

You know, no one is ever really dead, and especially not my grandpa. He had four kids, and from those four, we have a huge family. We're all here for him, and I can see traces of him in all of us. He may have passed on, but the evidence of his life is so obvious on this earth, you could never deny it had you known him. He was a great man.

But if I'm scarce around here or if I'm always on here, you'll know why. One of the last things we did together was he bought an iMac and I taught him how to use it, and that's what I'm writing on now. My relatives have no idea how to use it, due to it being a mac, but you know.

Anyway, that's what's been going on.

Merry Christmas! Oops, I mean Happy Holidays!

Thank you for shopping at Wall-Mart!
Ho Ho Ho! It's the day after Halloween, so it's now officially the holiday season! We know you all just love to hear traditional carols over our tinny music system, so we've delivered! Now you can sing Noel while sweating in the freakishly warm fall air!
Not only this, but because we know you all get your holiday gifts TWO MONTHS in advance, we've set up half the store in holiday garb! You too can look like Santa clause with our racks of white beards and red suits! Dont forget, or Hannah Montana may just be compelled to remake a few songs and we'll in turn be compelled to play them over our speaker system. Wall Mart loves Hannah Montana, just in case you people haven't noticed.
That's right, people. Spend your money here! Dont forget or your children will hate you! Children, dont forget or your friends will hate you! Grandparents... we dont have anything to say to you. You're old. Screw you.

Okay. I just went to wall mart, and guess what i saw! A garland made of the new Wall mart logo! And right next to it, a breaking dawn stand all set up all pretty! (I hate breaking dawn beyond belief, so every time I see that book, it's like someone's insistingly poking me in the head.)Next to it, Hannah Montana smiles at me with Dr. Pepper in new football containers over in the next corner. Over in the very back, there's an entire new store that consists of garlands and Santa hats. Is it just me, or has Christmas been perverted beyond belief?

MTV, what have you done to me?

I've always wanted stuff. Preferably free stuff.

So, here's my top 10 free mac applications that I bet you didn't know about.
These do come with instructions, but most of them are pretty vauge. If youre not a geek, do some googling on how to use them.
Most Valuable to least valuable.

1. HandBrake.
Convert DVDs to your ipod's video format. For free. Works like a charm, shockingly good video quality. MPEG-4.
[link]

2. Audacity.
It's like the anti-Garageband. A lot easier to use as well, and you can put copyrighted music in your podcast, etc.
[link]

3. Book2Pod.
Put books on your ipod. Full books. It breaks them up into little sections and then you hit "next" and it flips the digital page.
(scribd lets you download books for free in .TXT format.)
[link]

4. iMovie HD.
If you're one of the hardcore video editors and you just made the "switch" and your mac came with leapord preinstalled, you dont have the real iMovie. Apple realized that iMovie '08 sucks and released the previous, better version for free. You can keep iMovie 08, i promise.
[link]

5. Firefox.
You've heard of this one. Better than Safari.
[link]

6. iSquint.
Convert video files to iPod format. You can even do things like .AVI and the other Windows formats.
[link]

7. PDF Shrink.
I have to send PDFs to people sometimes, and the PDFs get pretty lengthy, and I dont like to send people huge files that clog up their inboxes. So I just shrink them!
[link]

8. Pingus.
A cute little penguin arcade game for when you're bored. The music is annoying as heck though, and you cant turn it off without hitting Mute. Have an iPod handy.
[link]

9. RAR Expander.
Windows people sometimes save stuff as RARs rather than ZIPs. You can unlock the files using this program.
[link]

10. Veoh Player.
Get TV shows on your mac. Find the files in the finder, use iSquint to conver them to iPod format, watch high quality TV shows for free.

Hope I helped you guy out! I love these little things. :)
